Portland Winterhawks News Release

Portland-area teddy bears are mobilizing in record numbers in anticipation of next Saturday's Bank of the West Teddy Bear Toss game, as they hope to bring happiness to more children than ever before. The annual Teddy Bear Toss takes place at the Winterhawks game on Saturday, November 28 against Seattle at the Rose Garden.

"The Winterhawks want to make this a record night, and we can bear-ly contain our excitement," said Portland spokesbear Ted E. Ursus. "Our bears risk life and limb for the Teddy Bear Toss- motion sickness, hard landings on the ice and frostbite are all real dangers. But at the end of the day it's worth it when we see the smiles on the faces of the young children whose days are brightened when we're delivered."

Last year a franchise record 22,392 bears were thrown on the ice, and this season the team wants to beat Calgary's WHL record of 26,919.

Fans can recruit bears to the effort by visiting local Dollar Tree stores and buying teddy bears for just $1.

The Bank of the West Teddy Bear Toss is one of the most popular Winterhawks promotions of the year, as fans throw teddy bears on the ice after the team's first goal of the game, which are later donated to local children's hospitals and charities.

Fans looking for a great deal on tickets to the game can take advantage of the Teddy Bear Ten-Pack: 10 tickets and 10 Hawk Eyes hats beginning at just $120. To take advantage of this deal, call the Winterhawks' ticket office at 503-238-6366.
