
Ethan Skender Doubles and Triples in Missions Friday Night Victory

SAN ANTONIO - In his Double-A debut, 24-year-old Ethan Skender stole the show with a two extra-base hit performance. He recorded a double and an RBI triple during the Missions 3-1 victory Friday night.
The first scoring opportunity surfaced in the top of the third inning for the Midland RockHounds. Missions starter Osvaldo Hernandez surrendered a lead-off single to Jake Suddelson. A wild pitch from Hernandez advanced Suddelson to second base. He advanced to third on a ground out from Chase Calabuig. Max Schuemann popped out for out number two. Hernandez left Suddelson stranded at third after striking out Devin Foyle.
After being held scoreless for the first three innings, the Missions jumped on Midland for three runs in the fourth inning. Facing RockHounds starter Jack Cushing, San Antonio started the inning with a lead-off walk from Eguy Rosario. A wild pitch advanced Rosario to second base. Michael Curry broke up the shutout with an RBI double. Juan Fernandez reached on an infield single with Curry advancing to third on the play. Olivier Basabe scored Curry with a sacrifice bunt. Lastly, newcomer Ethan Skender drove in Fernandez with an RBI triple.
Hernandez faced a tough jam in the top of the fifth inning. After recording two outs, Calabuig extended the inning with a base hit. Schuemann followed that up with a double which placed both runners in scoring position. After a mound visit, Hernandez retired Foyle with a pop out to shortstop to end the threat.
San Antonio had a chance to add some insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Fernandez began the inning with an infield single. After a fly out, Skender hit a double and advanced Fernandez into scoring position. Kelvin Melean grounded out and Esteury Ruiz flew out and stranded both runners.
Midland was held scoreless until the seventh inning. Facing reliever James Reeves, Suddelson drew a one out walk. After recording the second out of the inning, Schuemann drove in Suddelson with an RBI double to right field. The Missions had a 3-1 advantage.
Nick Kuzia pitched out of a jam for the Missions in the eighth inning. With two outs, Jhonny Santos reached on a fielding error to extend the inning. Logan Davidson hit a single to bring the go-ahead run to the plate. Kuzia struck out Edwin Diaz to end the threat.
Jose Quezada also pitched out of a jam, this one being in the bottom of the nineth. After recording the first two outs, he walked Schuemann and allowed a double to Foyle. Jonah Bride stepped to the plate representing the go-ahead run. Quezada struck him to clinch the win.
Osvaldo Hernandez records his fourth win of the season after tossing five scoreless innings. He allowed four hits and struck out five batters. Jose Quezada converted his 14th save of the season.

The San Antonio Missions continue their six-game series with the Midland RockHounds on Saturday, August 28th. Right-hander Tyler Viza (0-0, 3.00) is scheduled to start for the Missions. Left-hander Ty Damron (2-3, 5.78) is scheduled to start for the RockHounds. First pitch will be at 7:05 p.m.
