Wichita Wind Surge News Release
WICHITA, KS - The Wind Surge offense was stymied in game four of the series, only racking up three hits on the evening. Despite the third straight loss, the Frisco RoughRiders have also been in a losing skid, leaving Wichita to remain at the top of the league.
The Drillers scored two in the second off a Juan Zabala RBI single to center field and off Devin Mann scoring from third on a wild pitch. The Wind Surge offense was stagnant through four innings as they had yet to record a hit. They finally broke through on the scoreboard with one run in the fifth to cut the Driller lead in half. D.J. Burt led off the fifth by drawing a walk. Burt then stole second and advanced to third on Spencer Steer's single to center field. In the next at-bat, Austin Martin reached on a fielder's choice after grounding out to the third baseman, but Burt was able to score form third to plate the first run for Wichita.
The Wind Surge had a golden opportunity to tie the game and do further damage in the bottom of the eighth. Coming off the bench, Jermaine Palacios picked up the third Surge hit of the night with a pinch-hit single to left field to load the bases for Wichita with only one out in the inning. The Surge could do nothing with it however as they recorded a strikeout and fly-out to end the chance. That ended up being Wichita's best opportunity tonight as they fell 2-1 in game four of the series.
Chris Vallimont had a decent outing, but his pitch count forced him to retire early. Vallimont threw 4.0 innings allowing two runs on four hits while recording eight strikeouts. Jason Garcia had a good outing as the first call to the bullpen. Garcia threw 2.0 scoreless innings and allowed just two hits with one strikeout. Alex Phillips followed Garcia with 1.2 scoreless innings. Phillips struck out two and only gave up one hit. Jordan Gore pitched the final 1.1 innings and struck out two on the night.
NOTES: Wichita added infielder Gabe Snyder from High-A Cedar Rapids. Wichita also activated Hector Lujan from the injured list and activated Leobaldo Cabrera from temporary inactive list.
COMING UP: Wichita will play game five of the series against the Tulsa Drillers tomorrow evening (8/28). First pitch is set for 6:05 pm from Riverfront Stadium. Wichita will start RHP Cole Sands (2-1, 2.93 ERA) tomorrow. Tulsa's starter is still to be determined. RADIO/TV: KGSO 1410 AM and 93.9 FM, MiLB.TV and Windsurge.com
