Sacramento River Cats News Release

West Sacramento, Calif. - The Sacramento River Cats (38-53) could not muster much offense outside the top two hitters in their batting order, falling to the Tacoma Rainiers (53-39) on Friday.

Sacramento designated hitter Steven Duggar and second baseman Thairo Estrada each scored a run, combined for five of Sacramento's seven hits, and knocked in all three runs.

Tacoma shortstop Donovan Walton kicked off the game with a leadoff home run to right field. The River Cats responded with a 398-foot two-run home run by Estrada, his second in as many games.

The Rainiers retook the lead in the fifth when right fielder Taylor Trammell launched a two-run shot, but quickly surrendered it when catcher Chadwick Tromp laced a two-out double, and scored on Duggar's RBI single.

Right-hander Logan Ondrusek struck out four in a season-high 5.0 innings, but the long ball came back to bite him as he surrendered three runs on two home runs.

The game remained tied until the seventh when the Rainiers tagged right-handed reliever Gerson Bautista (1-3) for four runs on three hits and three walks in an inning-plus of work.

Left-hander Scott Kazmir (2-2, 4.40) makes his first home start since returning from competing for Team USA at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He'll take on a Tacoma TBD at 7:05 p.m. (PT). Watch Johnny Doskow and J.T. Snow call the game live on CW-31 or listen online at rivercats.com or on the MiLB First Pitch app.

Additional Notes

The River Cats were held without a walk for the second time in three games (Aug. 16 against Salt Lake being the other), while striking out 14 times.

Sacramento right-hander Jay Jackson picked up where he left off with the River Cats, striking out two in a perfect ninth inning. He has 20 strikeouts in 12 scoreless Triple-A innings.
