Edmonton Elks News Release
(EDMONTON) The Edmonton Eskimos announced the signing of receivers, Trevor Gaylor, Scott Cloman and running back Ron McClendon. The Eskimos also announced that previously-suspended receiver, Tony Simmons has reported to the club.
Gaylor was a fourth-round draft pick of the San Diego Chargers from Miami (Ohio) in 2000. Gaylor ended his career as Miami's record holder in receptions (128), receiving yards (2,131) and touchdowns (20). After being traded to Atlanta from San Diego he appeared in 13 games with two starts for the Falcons. He was waived by the Falcons in 2003 and did not play last year. Gaylor signed with the Detroit Lions in January 2004, and was released during training camp.
Cloman entered the NFL in 2000 as an undrafted free agent with Kansas City but was released in training camp. Prior to signing with the Chiefs, he played for the Iowa Barnstormers of the Arena Football League. Cloman spent time in San Francisco, Orlando (XFL) and also with the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe. Cloman's last stop was with the Washington Redskins in 2004 where he was a late cut in training camp.
McClendon is a graduate of the University of Mississippi where he appeared in a total of 21 games over two years. A double-threat as both a running back and kick receiver, McClendon racked up 709 yards on 151 carries as a Rebel and added 706 yards on 33 returns. McClendon signed as an undrafted free-agent with the Tennessee Titans in 2004 and was a late cut from training camp.
Simmons played five seasons in the NFL, three with the New England Patriots. As a rookie in 1998, he hauled in 23 passes for 474 yards and 3 touchdowns. In 2001, New England allocated him to the Barcelona Dragons (NFL Europe) where he earned First-Team All-NFL Europe honors and led the Dragons to a World Bowl IX appearance; a game in which he caught six passes for 127 yards, including one 58-yard touchdown. He returned to the NFL one year later, playing in seven games with the Indianapolis Colts. In 2002, he saw action in four games with the New York Giants but did not record a catch.
