Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release

WINNIPEG, MB – Runningback Charles Roberts was a one-man wrecking crew against the Saskatchewan Roughriders Sunday.

Roberts – who ran for 159 yards and totaled 197 combined yards in the contest – scored two touchdowns in the Big Blue's 27-24 victory over the Roughies in the 1st Annual Banjo Bowl at Canad Inns Stadium. The CFL has recognized his achievements by naming Roberts its Player of the Week in the offensive category.

Roberts – who is 2nd in CFL rushing (945 yards) and 2nd in CFL touchdowns (9) – reached the end zone in the 2nd Quarter on a 10-yard pass-and-catch hookup with quarterback Kevin Glenn. He then scampered into the end zone on a 20-yard rushing play in the 3rd Quarter to help the Bombers to victory.

The 159-yard rushing performance was Roberts' 3rd 100-yard rushing game of the season and the 16th of his CFL career when playoffs are included. The Blue Bombers are 16-0 when Roberts rushes for 100 or more yards in a game.

Roberts surpassed the 10,000-yard mark in career combined yards in only his 64th CFL game. Roberts, who is only the 4th Bomber ever to reach that plateau, is already closing in on the CFL's Top-20 list for career combined yards.

The CFL Player of the Week honor is the 1st of the 2004 campaign for Roberts and the 7th of his young career.
