ENTERING TONIGHT'S ACTION...

Tonight, the SeaWolves continue a nine-game homestand as they open a three-game series against the New Britain Rock Cats (Minnesota Twins) at Jerry Uht Park. On Sunday, the Howlers snapped a six-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Reading. The loss streak was the second-longest by the club this season. The win brought the SeaWolves to within two games of the wildcard leading R-Phils in the EL South. Erie enters tonight nine games behind first place Akron, two games behind second place Reading and a half game ahead of fourth place Bowie...The SeaWolves are the top home team in the Eastern League with a 38-18 record and .678 winning percentage...The Rock Cats come into tonight's game having won their last two over Bowie. New Britain is currently leading the wildcard race in the EL North, a half gave ahead of third place Trenton. Tonight begins a string of 15 consecutive games against Northern Division opponents. The Howlers are 17-8 against teams from the EL North this season...Erie is 4-6 while New Britain is 3-7 in the last 10 games...The SeaWolves offense has struggled over the last 10 games. During that stretch, the club is hitting .223 which is .037 lower than the season average. Casper Wells and Brennan Boesch have been the hottest SeaWolves at the plate over the last 10. Wells is hitting .306 (11x36) with four home runs and seven RBI while Boesch is hitting .302 (13x43) with four home runs and 12 RBI...Righty Jonah Nickerson looks to even his record to .500 after taking losses in two of his last three starts. He has given up 14 earned runs in his last 18.2 innings of work. His last win was July 12 against Akron.
