Chesapeake Baysox News Release

Manchester, N.H. - Second baseman Miguel Abreu had three hits and drove in three runs as the Baysox defeated New Hampshire 7-3. Center fielder Dave Krynzel had two hits including a home run, while left fielder Jonathan Tucker has a triple and two runs scored. With the win, the Baysox improve to 59-50 on the season, moving to within 1.5 games of Reading for second place in the Southern Division.

The Baysox kicked off the scoring in the third inning against Fisher Cats right-hander Randy Boone. Shortstop Robert Valido led off with a single and advanced to second on a walk by first baseman Eric Crozier. A double to left by Abreu brought one run across, leaving two men in scoring position with nobody out. Ambiorix Concepcion laced a single into center field, plating two runs and giving the Baysox right fielder his team leading 46th RBI of the season.

They would add two more in the fourth inning to extend the lead to five. Third baseman Jason White and left fielder Jonathan Tucker led off the inning with singles, advancing into scoring position on a groundout by Valido. A walk to Crozier loaded the bases, and Abreu stroked a two-run double to left for his second hit of the night. The second baseman finished the night 3-for-4, collecting his 36th multi-hit game of the season as the Baysox took a 5-0 lead into the fifth inning.

New Hampshire came back to put three runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth against Baysox right-hander Ryohei Tanaka. With runners at first and third with one out, Nick Gorneault lifted a sacrifice fly to center to bring home the first run of the game for the Fisher Cats. Krynzel's throw to the plate was offline, allowing Brian Jeroloman to advance to second with two outs in the inning. Jonathan Diaz followed with his first home run of the season, a two-run blast to left field which made the score 5-3.

The Baysox tallied single runs in the sixth and seventh innings against the Fisher Cats bullpen to put the game out of reach. Back-to-back triples by Tucker and designated hitter Paco Figueroa pushed a run across in the sixth against New Hampshire reliever Matt Hensley. In the seventh inning, Krynzel connected for his seventh home run of the season to make it a 7-3 Baysox lead. It was the first home run since June 29 for Krynzel, and now sits one behind Concepcion's team lead with eight.

Aside from a shaky fifth inning, Tanaka pitched very well and earned the second win of his professional career. The right-hander left after 7.0 innings of work, allowing three earned runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out two. He has compiled a 1.91 ERA in 15 appearances (six starts) on the season.

Right-hander Ryan Ouellette worked a perfect eighth inning for the Baysox, striking out one. Southpaw Chad Thall came on to close the door in the ninth, allowing a hit and striking out one on his way to recording his 30th scoreless outing of the season.

The two teams continue their series tomorrow as RHP Pedro Beato (0-0, 0.00 ERA) makes his Baysox debut against RHP Kenny Rodriguez (1-3, 5.22 ERA). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
