Altoona Curve News Release
PORTLAND, Maine - Altoona shattered a franchise record by smashing 10 doubles as the Curve improved to 3-0 in the month of August besting the Portland SeaDogs (AA - Boston Red Sox) in the first game of a three-game set 12-6 on Friday night at Hadlock Field.
Altoona's franchise record of seven doubles in one game (a record set this season on April 30 at Reading) was bested in the fourth inning when Jonel Pacheco doubled in the fourth inning.
Four Curve players had a pair of doubles. Ray Chang, Pedro Alvarez, Brian Friday and Jeff Corsaletti. Five Curve players enjoyed multi-hit games in the victory: Gorkys Hernandez (2-for-4), Chang (2-for-5), Alvarez (3-for-6), Friday (3-for-4), and Corsaletti (2-for-3).
Altoona plated a pair of runs in the first inning before chasing Portland starter Jarrod Plummer in the fourth inning, plating a season-best six runs on six hits. The Curve grabbed three more runs in the sixth inning before Portland would plate five unanswered runs.
Starter Mike Crotta was lifted after tossing 6.0 innings allowing four runs on seven hits and striking out seven - just one shy of his career high. Crotta secured his first victory since June 20, which was also just his second in his last 15 starts.
The Curve would grab one more run by way of Alvarez's eighth homer in Double-A and his 22nd of the season.
With the victory the team kicked off its unique "Road to Savings Promotion" in style. Curve fans have saved $1 off Grandstand and Terrace Level seating for Thursday's August 13 game versus the Portland SeaDogs at Blair County Ballpark. Fans can enjoy one dollar off those select to the August 13 game for every game the Curve win (max of five) on the current six-game road trip.
The Curve will look to remain undefeated in the month of August and grab a season-high fourth consecutive victory in the second game of the series against Portland on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. The Curve will send lefty Kyle Bloom (4-6, 3.54) to the mound while Portland will counter with righty Ryne Lawson (2-9, 6.29).
