Energy's Electric Offense Carries Them To Victory In Showcase Finale

RENO, NEV., Jan. 9, 2014 - The Iowa Energy exploded for 143 points and led throughout to knock off the Springfield Armor by a score of 143-132 in the final game of the NBA D-League Showcase presented by Samsung Galaxy.

Minnesota Timberwolves' assignee Shabazz Muhammad would have another great showing in his second NBA D-League game. He finished with a double-double recording 22 points and 11 rebounds. Jarvis Varnado, a member of last year's Miami Heat championship team, also had a strong showing with a team-high 25 points and 12 boards.

Iowa came out hot right off the opening tip. They shot .636 from the floor in the opening frame en route to a 41-point quarter. Varnado and Muhammad led the charge with 11 and nine points in the first quarter, respectively. They would finish the game with seven players scoring in double-figures.

The Energy didn't relinquish any momentum in the second-quarter and carried a 75-61 lead into the locker room after a high-scoring first half.

Springfield would cut the lead down to eight at 129-121 with 2:42 remaining in the game but that was as close as they would get as Iowa finished them off in the final minutes.

NBA D-League Player of the Month for December, Othyus Jeffers tallied 18 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals in the win.

A bright spot for the Springfield Armor was guard, Darius Johnson-Odom who scored a game-high 41 points on 13-of-25 shooting. He connected on 13-of-15 attempts from the free throw line in the contest. The 41 points ties him for fourth for points scored in a game this season. Dennis Horner added 30 points and Justin Johnson came off the bench to add 19 points.

The Energy will look to keep the momentum going on Saturday when they travel to Fort Wayne to take on the Mad Ants at 5 P.M. EST. Springfield will look to bounce back with they play host to the Delaware87ers on Saturday at 7 P.M. EST.
