
Hot-Shooting Warriors Sting Vipers at Showcase

RENO, Nev. - In a rematch of the 2013 NBA D-League Finals, the Santa Cruz Warriors defeated the Rio Grande Valley Vipers 127-115 Thursday afternoon on the final day of the NBA D-League Showcase.
Santa Cruz was led by Seth Curry, who scored 27 points and dished out eight assists in his return to the Warriors. Cameron Jones scored 23, while Hilton Armstrong logged a double-double with 17 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Daniel Nwaelele scored 19 points, shooting 5-of-8 from three, while William Buford scored 18 off the bench.
Rio Grande Valley's Troy Daniels led all scorers with 31 points, connecting on eight three-pointers. Chris Johnson scored 18, while Houston Rockets assignee Robert Covington finished with 13 points. Gary Talton had a game-high 10 assists, while Kevin Parrom scored 18 points in the second half off the bench.
There were 11 lead changes in the game - all in the first quarter. The Vipers raced out to a 6-0 lead to start the game, but the Warriors responded with eight straight points to take the lead. Santa Cruz pulled ahead late in the first frame on two Hilton Armstrong free throws to make it 32-30 and never looked back. The Warriors led by as much as 18 in the third quarter, and while the Vipers got within five to start the fourth, the Warriors extended their lead and won by 12.
The Warriors shot 54.2% from three, matching a Santa Cruz all-time record set on Dec. 17, 2013, against the Los Angeles D-Fenders. Santa Cruz held the edge over the Vipers in practically every category - field goal percentage (55.2%-42.4%), rebounds (46-39), assists (24-21), steals (11-8), turnovers (16-20), points in the paint (54-38) and blocks (3-2). The Vipers scored more second chance points (18-16).
The Santa Cruz Warriors return to Kaiser Permanente Arena for the second game of a back-to-back, taking on the Maine Red Claws on Friday, January 10 at 7:00 p.m. Every fan in attendance will receive a Santa Cruz Warriors superhero cape, and tickets are still available at www.santacruzbasketball.com.
