RENO, NEV., Jan. 9, 2014 - The Texas Legends were able to hold off the Delaware 87ers late and notch the 113-108 victory on the final day of the NBA D-League Showcase presented by Samsung Galaxy.
Melvin Ely matched his season-high with 32 points on 13-of-19 shooting and compiled nine rebounds. Devin Ebanks has been steady for Texas all season, scoring in double-figures in every game and tallying at least 20 points in 13-of-18 games. Today was no different as he recorded a double-double with 25 points and 12 rebounds.
Ely helped the Legends get off to good start. His 11 points in the first-quarter gave Texas a 25-20 lead. The game remained close the remainder of the half and Texas would carry a 54-51 lead into the locker room.
In the final minute of the third-quarter, Philadelphia 76ers' assignee Lorenzo Brown tied the game at 80 for Delaware with a layup with 3.8 seconds left. Brown finished the day with 22 points and seven rebounds. Ebanks would respond and hit a 3-pointer as time expired in the quarter to put Texas back on top 83-80 going into the final frame.
Midway through the fourth quarter, Texas put together a 9-0 run to make the score 103-92 with 4:34 to play. With time running out Delaware would not go quietly, cutting the Texas lead to 105-103.
Booker Woodfox would then come through with his biggest shot of the day. He nailed a 3-pointer to put Texas up 108-103 with 1:36 to play. Woodfox came off the bench to score 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including his connection on 3-of-6 attempts from behind the arc.
Following a few Texas' trips to the foul line, Matt Bouldin had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds but missed on a 3-pointer just off the rim.
Bouldin led the 87ers with 23 points and seven rebounds. Damian Saunders and Tiny Gallon both registered double-doubles. Saunders had 13 points and 11 rebounds and Gallon scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the defeat.
Texas will return to the hardwood on Saturday to take on the Rio Grande Valley Vipers at 8 P.M. EST. Delaware will travel to Springfield on Saturday to play the Armor at 7 P.M. EST.
