Springfield Armor News Release

RENO, Nev. - The Reno Bighorns (9-9) shot at a torrid pace throughout the night as the Springfield Armor (4-12), presented by MGM Springfield, dropped their first game of the 2014 NBA D-League Showcase Wednesday night, 121-79, at the Reno Events Center.

Three pointers set the tone in the first quarter as the Bighorns connected on seven triples, led by K.C. Rivers who went 4-for-6 from beyond the arc in the opening frame. The Armor received scoring help from eight different players, but entered the second trailing by 11 at 35-24 after Reno's hot start from long distance.

The Armor found their touch in the second, eventually tying the game at 43 about half way through the frame after a 14-2 run that spanned over four minutes. The Bighorns answered with a 9-0 run of their own, but after Springfield closed the gap to just six, Reno's Mo Charlo completed a four-point play with less than a second remaining to give the Bighorns a 61-51 lead at the break.

Adonis Thomas led the Armor with 11 points over the first half on 5-of-9 shooting, while Dennis Horner also reached double figures with 10 points through the first 24 minutes. The Armor shot 51.1 percent from the floor and forced seven turnovers on seven steals, but nine three pointers by the Bighorns put Reno in front by 10.

The Bighorns came out firing to begin the second half, sinking the Armor into a 30-point hole after Reno completed its second four-point play of the game with 2:49 left in the third. Reno continued to shoot hot, finishing up the third by outscoring the Armor 31-9 to take a 92-60 edge into the fourth. Springfield's nine points in the frame were just two shy of the franchise's all-time low.

Reno kept Springfield in a double digit deficit throughout the fourth quarter, finishing off the game by outscoring the Armor 29-19 in the final frame for a 121-79 victory. The Armor dropped to 0-7 all-time against the Bighorns, while Springfield's all-time record in the D-League Showcase fell to 3-6.

Horner finished with 20 points, his fifth 20-point game of the season, while Thomas ended the game with 11 points, going 0-for-3 from the field in the second half. Springfield turned the ball over 17 times over the final 24 minutes for 23 turnovers on the night.

Rivers led all scorers with 27 points, shooting 9-of-14 from the field and 7-of-12 from beyond the arc as the Bighorns tallied 16 treys. As a team, Reno shot 57.1 percent (44-of-7) from the field, 48.5 percent (16-of-33) from long range and 89.5 percent (17-of-19) from the charity stripe.

The Armor will finish off their 2014 NBA D-League Showcase with a 6:30 p.m. EST match-up against the Iowa Energy Thursday night at the Reno Events Center. For more information on the Armor, visit www.ArmorHoops.com or call (413) 746-3263. Keep up with the Armor on Facebook and Twitter !
