January 23, 2011 - NBA G League (G League)
Iowa Wolves News Release
DES MOINES, IA, January 23, 2011- Point guard Curtis Stinson scored 29 points and handed out 9 assists to lead the Iowa Energy to a 107-102 victory over the Reno Bighorns Sunday afternoon.
The Energy victory didn't look promising early in the 2nd half as Reno used a 28-8 run to break open a tight game. The visitors went into the locker room at halftime trailing 48-45, but were red-hot after the break. During their run, which gave Reno a 73-56 lead, the Bighorns made 11 of their 14 field goal attempts.
Down by 17, the Energy responded with a run of their own as they outscored Reno 17-4 to close the quarter and make the score 77-73 Reno. Iowa continued their run as they opened the 4th quarter with an 8-3 spurt, which included six points by Stinson, to take a 81-80 lead with 10:21 remaining.
The Energy extended their lead to 95-87 on a Chris Lofton layup with 5:19 left in the game, but Reno some fight left. The Bighorns scored nine straight point, capped by a jump shot from Golden State Warriors assignee Jeremy Lin, to claim a 96-95 lead with only 2:34 on the clock.
On the ensuing possession, Stinson's jump shot was off its mark, but Othyus Jeffers grabbed the rebound. His follow up rattled around the rim, allowing Energy center Courtney Sims to dunk the ball through the hoop as it sat on the rim. On Reno's possession, Partrick O'Bryant hit one free throw to tie the game at 97-97.
With the game tied, and Iowa in possession of the ball, the Energy found themselves unable to get a good look at the hoop. With the shot clock winding down, and the game clock at only 1:24, guard Chris Lofton drilled a tough fade-away jump shot put the home team up by two. After a defensive stop, Energy guard Stefhon Hannah scored to put Iowa up 101-97 with 54.6 seconds remaining.
Reno's Marcus Landry, who finished with a game high 33 points, answered the Energy basket with a jump shot of his own to make the score 101-99 Iowa with 37.6 seconds remaining.
After running the shot clock down, Stinson put the game in his own hands and scored on a driving layup to seal the victory for the Energy.
The win moves Iowa to 19-7 on the year, and is the 126th straight game that the franchise has been in 1st place in their division.
Jeffers finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds while Courtney Sims added 12 points and 17 rebounds.
In addition to Landry's big night, Reno was led by Lin's 21 points and 11 rebounds. The loss drops Reno to 15-11 on the season.
The Energy host Rio Grande Valley on Friday and Saturday. Both games start at 7pm. Tickets are available at www.dahlstickets.com, by calling 564-8550 or at the arena box office.
