Energy Beat Reno 100-98 In Front Of 8,391 Fans

DES MOINES, IA, January 22, 2011- Michael Haynes scored 23 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as the Iowa Energy defeated the Reno Bighorns 100-98 in front of 8,391 fans in Des Moines.

Reno took a 46-41 lead into halftime as Golden State Warriors assignee Jeremy Lin scored 11 points before the break.

Iowa used a 5-0 run late in the 3rd quarter, capped by a pair of Othyus Jeffers free throws to take a 71-69 lead into the final quarter.

The Energy extended their lead to eight points with 4:46 remaining in the game as Courtney Sims drilled two free throws. Reno would battle back, and a Marcus Landry step back jump shot made cut the Energy lead to 94-93 with 2:22 left.

The teams traded buckets, leaving the score at 96-95 Iowa with 1:02 remaining. After drawing up an in-bounds play, Iowa's Chris Lofton drilled a 3-pointer from the corner to put the Energy up by four.

With 29.9 second remaining and the Energy clinging to a four point lead, Iowa's Othyus Jeffers was whistled for a flagrant foul, sending Mo Charlo to the free throw line for two shots and giving Reno the ball after the shots. Charlo hit one of two foul shots, and after a mad scramble for the ball, Patrick O'Bryant scored on a layup to make it a one point game.

Reno fouled Haynes on the ensuing possession, and the 6'7" forward made one of two foul shots, extending the lead to two. Reno had two shots in the final seconds, but neither found their target, and Curtis Stinson secured the ball and the win.

Stinson finished with 22 points and 9 assists to move the Energy to 18-7 on the season.

Reno was led by Mo Charlo's 19 point, 11 assist night. The loss drops Reno to 15-10 on the season.
