
BayHawks Make Weekend Sweep of Mad Ants

Erie, Pennsylvania, Saturday, January 22, 2011 - Ivan Johnson scored 39 points to help the Erie BayHawks muscle past the Fort Wayne Mad Ants and improve their record to 17-9. With eight lead changes throughout the game, the BayHawks were able to outlast the Mad Ants 115-110 in front of 5,057 fans at Tullio Arena.
Johnson dropped 16 in the first as the BayHawks took an early lead, 31-29. But the Mad Ants answered back before the half led by Rod Wilmont who scored 23 of his 35 points in the first half. Fort Wayne entered halftime up seven, 62-55.
A big BayHawks' third quarter included a 22-6 run that put Erie in the lead for good, but Fort Wayne threatened in the in the closing minutes. With 43.3 seconds left to play, Erie led by seven when Wilmont drained a three to make the score 111-107. But a foul on Garrett Temple and made free throws by Temple and Blake Ahearn proved to be clutch for the BayHawks in the final seconds to put the Mad Ants away for good as they dropped to 12-14.
Four BayHawks scored in double-figures. Johnson led the attack with 39, Temple added 28, Kyle Spain notched 14, and Tasmin Mitchell chipped in 11.
Wilmont scored 35 points for the Mad Ants along with Marvin Philips who had 19 and grabbed 12 rebounds, Oliver Lafayette added 14, Darnell Lazare chipped in 12, and Wayne Chism had 10.
The BayHawks travel to Portland on January 28 to take on the Maine Red Claws at 7pm ET.
