Energy Obtain Two Draft Picks in Trade with Los Angeles
December 28, 2011 - NBA G League (G League)
Iowa Wolves News Release
DES MOINES, IA Dec 28, 2011- The 2011 NBA D-League Champion Iowa Energy have acquired two 2012 3rd round draft picks from the Los Angeles Defenders in exchange for guard Mardy Collins and the Energy's 8th round draft pick in 2012.
The Energy acquired both L.A's 3rd round pick as well as Tulsa's 3rd round pick, which had been obtained by L.A. in a previous trade.
Collins, a 6'6" guard out of Temple, was acquired by the Energy as an "Affiliate Player"; because he was in training camp with the Washington Wizards, one of the Energy's NBA affiliates. Collins has played four seasons in the NBA with the New York Knicks and L.A. Clippers. He has career averages of 3.9 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists. He most recently was playing in China prior to his stint in the Wizards camp.
"This trade allowed us to acquire two early picks in next year's draft, which are great assets to have," said Energy GM Chris Makris. "We also have the ability to leverage those assets to acquire players later this year if we decide that is the best way for us to reach our goal of repeating as NBA D-League champions."
The Energy host former Boston Celtic star Antoine Walker and his Idaho Stampede squad Friday night at 7pm in a "Bowl Day Blowout"! Fans who wear Iowa State, Iowa or Energy gear to the game can get $8 tickets. For more information, visit www.IowaNBA.com.
