The Jackals are facing the Cyclones tonight for the fourth of seven meetings this season, and second of five at U.S. Bank Arena. The Jackals are 1-1-1 against the Cyclones this season (0-1-1 on the road) after a 5-4 overtime loss in Cincinnati on December 21. The Cyclones grabbed back-to-back home wins in the season series with the Jackals after Elmira fired the opening salvo with a 2-1 win in Elmira on November 30. That win sparked a stretch where the Jackals won five of six games, but the back-to-back losses in Cincinnati were the first two of a season-long seven-game losing streak. Jackals center Jordan Pietrus has had a large hand in Elmira's offensive success against Cincinnati. Pietrus is averaging a point per game against the Cyclones (1G, 2A) after posting a goal and assist here on December 21.
There are some teams the Jackals need to leap over to make it happen, but their task is to chase down Reading and Fort Wayne for the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference. The month of January gives Elmira a golden chance to reel those teams in because, including last weekend's games, nine of Elmira's 11 games from 1/10 to 1/31 are against the Komets (5) and Royals (4). The Jackals are a combined 4-5-1 against Reading and Fort Wayne in the wake of last night's action.
Mark your calendars! The Jackals return to home ice on Friday, January 24 to take on the Fort Wayne Komets. Join us for Blade's Birthday Party! Don't forget that groups of 10 or more who book in advance receive discounts off the box office price and preferred seating based on availability. Call 607-734-7825 to get your group outing booked.
