Aces To Wear Calgary Flames Inspired Jerseys At Hockey Heritage Weekend
January 16, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces and the ECHL on Thursday announced specialty jerseys unveiled for the 2014 ECHL Hockey Heritage Weekend presented by CCM, hosted by the Aces at Sullivan Arena on Feb. 7-8.
The Aces, in their first season as the ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames, will wear specialty jerseys paying homage to the affiliation and Flames heritage. The Aces will wear red jerseys with white and yellow trim, symbolic of the jerseys worn by the Flames during their Stanley Cup championship season in 1988-89 and Cup Final appearance in 1986.
The Aces' bear mascot will adorn the front crest with the familiar "flames" from Calgary's "C" logo featured in the logo's neck area. The jersey also features the logos of the Flames (right shoulder) and Abbotsford Heat (left shoulder), the American Hockey League affiliate of the Aces and Flames.
Both jerseys will also feature the 2014 Hockey Heritage Weekend logo on the right front corner. Fans in attendance will have the opportunity to bid on the Aces jerseys in a live auction, immediately following the game on Feb. 8.
The Stanley Cup will make an appearance in Anchorage, Alaska on Feb. 7 and 8 at the event, which includes with the Seventh Annual ECHL Hall of Fame Luncheon presented by BFL Canada (Friday, Feb. 7) to be held at the Sheraton Anchorage Hotel & Spa at Noon.
The event continues with two specialty games sponsored by Sutton Special Risk on the nights of Feb. 7 and 8, as the Aces take on the Stockton Thunder. Both events begin at 7:15 p.m. AKST at Sullivan Arena and will feature historical displays straight from the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, including the Stanley Cup, several other of hockey's most prized trophies, artifacts celebrating the heritage of the game and interactive games for kids to enjoy.
Both the Stanley Cup and Kelly Cup will be available for a special viewing and a unique photo opportunity at the ECHL Hall of Fame Luncheon.
Stockton, in its first season as the affiliate of the New York Islanders, will wear the Islanders' familiar white jerseys with a navy and orange trim and modified "Rough and Ready Island" logo, identifying a local naval island base which strategized Stockton's location during the cold war.
Tickets for the Hall of Fame Luncheon are available by contacting George Sandoval at (907) 375-6815 or at george@alaskaaces.com. The seventh class of the ECHL Hall of Fame includes former Aces forward and ECHL all-time leading goal scorer Wes Goldie, along with James Edwards, Al MacIsaac and John Spoltore.
