Lightning Reassign Helenius to Everblades
January 16, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Florida Everblades News Release
Estero, FL - The Florida Everblades announced Thursday that the Tampa Bay Lightning, an NHL parent club of the Blades, assigned goalie Riku Helenius to the club from the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League.
Helenius, 25, is a former first round draft pick of the Bolts, having been selected 15th overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
A 6'3" native of Palkane, Finland, Helenius appeared in one game earlier this month for the Blades, making 27 saves in a loss at Gwinnett on January 5. He has a lifetime 2.66 GAA in the AHL with a .907 SV%.
With the Finn's arrival, the Blades now have three goalies on the roster: Helenius, recent AHL assignee Scott Stajcer and former NHL second round draft pick Trevor Cann, who is 8-6-0-0 with the Blades in 15 appearances.
On the ice, the Blades continue their four-game home stand Friday at 7:30pm when they face the in-state rival Orlando Solar Bears at Germain Arena.
Tickets are on sale right now at the Capital Bank Box Office, open Monday-Friday, 10:00am until 6:00pm.
Friday's intrastate throwdown will be broadcast live online at FloridaEverblades.com and on the Everblades' app for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, with a video webcast available through America ONE, the official broadband and mobile broadcaster of the ECHL, at www.americaonesports.com.
