TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: After delivering a 5-1 beating of Gwinnett last night, the Cyclones will face their second of three opponents this week as they welcome in the Elmira Jackals to U.S. Bank Arena. The Clones grabbed a pair of wins against the Atlantic Division basement-dwellers prior to the Christmas break - running their all-time record to 20-15-1-3 vs. the Jackals.
TONIGHT'S PROMOTION: THIRSTY THURSDAY / DUCK DYNASTY NIGHT - Fans 21+ can enjoy $1 PBR and Miller High life while celebrating one of the most iconic shows on TV today. Fans are encouraged to dress in their best "Duck Dynasty" themed attire! We'll award a cash prize for the most creative!
SCOUTING THE JACKALS: Dwight Mullins' club has stumbled mightily of late, dropping three straight games and nine out of their last ten. They come into the Queen City looking to climb back in the Eastern Conference race, sitting three points back of the Toledo Walleye. Road games, however, have been their biggest struggle; they've earned a 4-11-2-1 mark away from First Arena while being out-scored by a combined total of 65-42 in those games. Mike Vaskivuo, who was recently acquired from Fort Wayne, is atop the Jackals' scoring leaderboard with 22 points (5g, 17a) in 26 games. Jordan Pietrus has also been a regular contributor this season, collecting 22 tallies (5g, 17a) in 33 contests - three of which have come against Cincinnati. Goaltender Scott Greenham has started in four of Elmira's last five tilts, dropping all but one; overall this season, he is 6-10-1-1 with a 3.08 goals-against average. Maxime Clermont, meanwhile, has posted a 4-9-0-1 mark and a 3.31 GAA. He hasn't won a game since December 15.
LAST HEAD-TO-HEAD MEETING: DECEMBER 21, 2013: Less than 24 hours after shutting out the Jackals, the Cyclones scored four goals in the final period and overtime session to rally and defeat their Big Apple State foes by a 5-4 final score in front of 3,485 at U.S. Bank Arena. Five different Cyclones scored in the victory, including David MacDonald, who netted the game-winner in the bonus session.
Non Division? No Problem: This season, the Cyclones have among the most successful ECHL teams when playing non-division opponents. To date, they have gone 10-4-0-1 against the South and Atlantic Divisions combined.
Middle Period Muster: After another strong second period showing last Friday, the Clones are atop the ECHL in middle frame goals (44).
