North Little Rock, AR - The Arkansas Travelers lost 1-0 to the Springfield Cardinals on a wild game-ending play in the bottom of the 11th inning on Thursday at Dickey-Stephens Park.

With CF Jared Mitchell on first and LF D'Arby Myers at second with two outs and PH Wade Hinkle at the plate in the 11th, Hinkle lined a 3-2 pitch to left-center field. With the runners breaking on the pitch, Myers looked sure to score the game-tying run on the play, but Mitchell was thrown out trying to advance to third a fraction of a second prior to Myers touching home plate. The game ended on the heads-up play by Cardinals center fielder Charlie Tilson.

LF Anthony Garcia launched his sixth home run of the season in the top of the 11th off LHP Chris O'Grady (L, 0-1) to break a 0-0 tie.

O'Grady, who pitched the 10th and 11th innings for Arkansas, had not surrendered a run since May 1 spanning 12 appearances.

RHP Chris Ellis made his Double-A debut for the Travelers on Thursday and was masterful. Ellis worked six scoreless and allowed just three hits with three walks and four strikeouts. The 22 year-old has not allowed a run in three of his last four starts between Inland Empire and Arkansas.

RHP Kurt Spomer (IP) and RHP Eduard Santos (2 IP) worked the seventh through the ninth for the Travs without allowing a run.

Arkansas 2B Sherman Johnson went 1-for-3 with two walks and has reached base at least three times in all three games this series.

DH Raywilly Gomez (two walks and a single) and Mitchell (three walks) also both reached base three times for the Travelers.

The loss for Arkansas was its season-high fifth straight. They left 11 men on base.

With the loss, the Travs fell to 30-28, the closest they've been to .500 since 2-0.

The two teams will play the series finale on Friday at Dickey-Stephens Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
