Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

MIDLAND, TX - Jon Kemmer went 4-for-4 with a double and a three-run home run Thursday night as the Hooks knocked off the RockHounds 7-6 at Security Bank Ballpark.

Corpus Christi (40-18) can clinch the Texas League South first-half title with a victory Friday night. The Hooks, who secured their 10th consecutive series triumph, have won 10 of their last 12 games opposite Midland (29-30).

Astros right-hander Brad Peacock make a rehab start for Corpus Christi and stranded four over two innings of work.

In the third, Colin Moran belted a line drive to the fence in right-center off Jake Sanchez, chasing home Teoscar Hernandez and Andrew Aplin for a 2-0 Hooks lead. Moran was injured running out the double and was forced to exit the game.

In the home half, Matt Olson's two-bagger to right off Aaron West set the stage for the Hounds' opening salvo.

Corpus Christi added to its edge in the fourth. Kemmer opened with a double and Leo Heras worked a walk. Following a Roberto Pena bunt, Chan-Jong Moon lifted a sac fly to center. With two away, Hernandez punched a base hit into left for a 4-1 score.

With two on in the fifth, Kemmer launched the first pitch from Sanchez (4-5) into a stiff southeasterly wind and over the fence in right field. The two-out blast was his sixth of the year and his fifth against the RockHounds.

Midland scored in four of the final five frames. The exception was the ninth when Jandel Gustave struck out two of the three batters he faced for his eighth save.

The RockHounds stranded 12 on the night and were victimized by two timely twin-killings.

Midland loaded the bases to begin the fourth. West (2-3) turned a comebacker back to the hill into a 1-2-5 double play, and then struck out Colin Walsh looking to escape unscathed.

In the sixth, again with the bases full and no outs, Josh Whitaker hit a line drive to left field. Heras made the catch and fired a strike to Pena, who tagged out Wade Kirkland at the plate.

Corpus Christi aims for a series sweep Friday night. Joe Musgrove, slated to make his Double-A debut, will be opposed by Chris Jensen (4-4, 5.78). First pitch 7:00. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
