Springfield Cardinals News Release

North Little Rock, AR - The Springfield Cardinals collected their season-high sixth straight win with a 1-0 11-inning shutout victory against the Arkansas Travelers before 4,852 fans at Dickey-Stephens Park on Thursday night. With the win, the Cardinals have guaranteed their fourth straight series win and have taken nine of their last 10 games.

LHP Jimmy Reed (4.2 IP), RHP Ronnie Shaban (2.1 IP), RHP Chris Thomas (3.0 IP) and RHP Kyle Barraclough (1.0 IP) combined to throw the 11-inning shutout for the Cardinals (25-34). It marks the third shutout win for Springfield in their last five games.

Both starters -- Reed and Arkansas RHP Chris Ellis -- worked out of some early trouble to keep both lineups at bay. After escaping a bases-loaded jam in the third, Reed bounced back with a scoreless fourth and gave way to Shaban with one on and two down in the fifth.

Shaban got the quick final out in the fifth and followed it with two subsequent scoreless and hitless frames. Thomas (W, 1-2) tossed perfect innings in the eighth and ninth, and capped his outing with a scoreless 10th to keep it a 0-0 tie. The combination of Reed, Shaban and Thomas not only kept the Travs (30-28) off the board through the first 10 innings, but they also did not allow Arkansas to log a single hit from the second batter in the third through the third batter in the 10th, tossing more than seven straight hitless innings.

After Thomas closed the scoreless bottom of the 10th, Springfield finally cracked the scoreless tie in the top of the 11th against LHP Chris O'Grady (L, 0-1). With two down and the bases empty, LF Anthony Garcia crushed a solo home run over the left field fence, swinging Springfield into the 1-0 lead.

Barraclough (S, 4) then took over to slam the door in the bottom of the 11th. The Travs, though, refused to make it easy, working a pair of walks around two outs, putting runners at first and second with two away for pinch-hitting 1B Wade Hinkle. Hinkle placed the single that the Travs needed to shallow center field, but CF Charlie Tilson saved the day. With LF D'Arby Myers trying to score from second base on the play, Tilson instead threw to third base just in time to retire the secondary runner, CF Jared Mitchell, for the game's final out a split second before Myers could score, closing the 1-0 win for Springfield in 11 innings.

The Cardinals continue the road trip in Arkansas on Friday at 7:10pm. Catch all the action on Jock 98.7 FM and SpringfieldCardinals.com, and tune in 15 minutes early for the Coyote's Sports Cafe Pregame Show.
