Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Chiefs knocked off the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, 9-4, at NBT Bank Stadium on Saturday afternoon. A seven-run bottom of the eighth led the Chiefs to their second-straight win. All nine runs scored by the Chiefs, including the team's last 12 runs scored overall, came with two outs.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (8-8) opened the scoring in the top of the fourth. RailRiders catcher Gary Sanchez doubled to right field, stole third. Sanchez then scored on a passed ball by Chiefs catcher Jhonatan Solano to give the RailRiders a 1-0 lead.

Syracuse (8-8) answered in the bottom of the frame, scoring two runs on three hits. The rally began with a bunt single by third baseman Jason Martinson, who then stole second. With two outs, Caleb Ramsey hit a ground ball that went through the legs off first baseman Nick Swisher. Martinson scored and Ramsey reached third on the error, tying the game at one. A batter later, Jhonatan Solano singled home Ramsey, handing Syracuse a 2-1 lead after four innings.

The score remained 2-1 thanks to an impressive day from Chiefs' starter Austin Voth. Voth finished his afternoon after six four-hit innings, surrendering only one unearned run. The right-hander did not walk a batter and tallied nine strikeouts, his most since August of 2013 with Auburn. On the RailRiders side, Kyle Haynes was strong as well, going six and two-thirds innings giving up two runs, both unearned.

The game completely changed after an explosive eighth inning. Scranton Wilkes/Barre tied the score in the top of the frame. Ben Gamel singled to center, stole second, and scored on Gary Sanchez's single to right field.

The bottom of the eighth saw a Chiefs offensive outburst. Syracuse scored seven runs on six hits, all with two outs. Back-to-back singles from Kevin Keyes and Matt Skole started the inning. With one out, the RailRiders opted to intentionally walk Solano, loading the bases. After Isaac Ballou popped out, Brian Goodwin hit a two-run double into right-center field, putting the Chiefs up 4-2. The Goodwin double extended his hitting streak to 12 games. Trea Turner followed Goodwin with a three-run homer over the right-field wall, his second of the year, handing Syracuse a 7-2 advantage.

The seven-run eighth was capped by a two-run double by Keyes in his second at-bat of the inning. Syracuse wrapped up the inning with a 9-2 lead.

The RailRiders put two more on the board in the top of the ninth on a two-run homer from left fielder Chris Parmelee. Rafael Martin retired the next three batters to finish off the win.

Syracuse tries for the sweep Sunday at 1:05 p.m. Aaron Laffey is slated to get the ball for the Chiefs opposite to Tyler Cloyd of the RailRiders.
