van Mil's mound opponent, Dustin Antolin, was making just his second career start in 261 minor league appearances. Antolin struck out the side in the bottom of the first Saturday.
Buffalo took advantage of a one-out infield single, followed by two walks, to take the lead in the second inning. Tony Sanchez blooped a hit down the right field line, and Reynaldo Rodriguez made a diving attempt but fell short. the ball rolled into the right field corner, and two runners scored for a 2-0 Buffalo lead. Former Red Wing Alexi Casilla drove in a pair with a single, and after a sacrifice fly brought home one more run it was 5-0 Bisons.
Taylor Rogers came on in relief for van Mil (0-1) after two innings. After setting down the side in order in the third inning, the Bisons batted around again and tacked on four more runs after Rogers got the first out of the inning. A two-run single by Domonic Brown was the big hit of the inning for Buffalo.
Antolin walked James Beresford with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning, and the Bisons made a pitching change to bring in Colt Hynes. Antolin left having allowed just two baserunners, both from walks. Antolin struck out five Wings in 3.1 innings pitched.
Buddy Boshers took over for Rogers to start the fifth inning, and got three quick outs. In the bottom of the fifth, David Murphy singled up the middle off Hynes for the first Rochester hit of the day.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Red Wings broke the shutout against Hynes. Carlos Paulino led off with a double, and with one out Beresford singled and Rodriguez hit a ground rule double to score Paulino and make the score 9-1. Beresford scored on a Kennys Vargas groundout, and it was 9-2 Buffalo.
Boshers had an impressive three inning scoreless relief stint, allowing three hits with no walks and four strikeouts. Dan Runzler worked the final two innings for the Red Wings, allowing a run in the eighth inning.
