
Eighth Inning Magic Continues in Win Over Bowie

The Erie SeaWolves continued to work their eighth-inning magic, rallying to beat the Bowie Baysox 7-5 on Saturday night at Jerry Uht Park.
The SeaWolves served the opening punch in the second inning with Bryan Pounds leading off with a single. After advancing to third on back-to-back walks from Deik Scram and Bryan Holaday, a fielder's choice from Brent Wyatt got Pounds home for a 1-0 lead.
The Baysox answered in the third inning with Pedro Florimon leading off with his a base hit, stole second, and came home to score on Buck Britton's RBI double. Then, after advancing to third on a groundout, L.J. Hoes' RBI single brought Britton in, giving Bowie a 2-1 lead.
The Howlers responded in the bottom of the third, as Brandon Douglas got a double and came home on Pounds' RBI single, tying the game 2-2.
However, the Baysox came right back in the fourth inning with Joe Mahoney leading off with a double. Brandon Waring would get Mahoney home on an RBI Double, making the score 3-2. Later, he advanced to third on Caleb Joseph's sacrifice bunt and would come home on a wild pitch, increasing Erie's deficit to 4-2.
Bowie added onto their lead in the sixth inning with Mahoney leading off with a solo home run into left center, giving the Baysox a 5-2 lead.
Then, in the eighth inning, the Howlers kicked off their rally with back-to-back walks from Jaime Johnson and Brandon Douglas, followed by a base hit from Rawley Bishop. Bryan Pounds would get an RBI groundout, bringing in Johnson. After Scram was hit by a pitch,Holaday's RBI base hit got Douglas in to score, tying the game 5-5. Following Michael Rockett getting on base via a hit by pitch, Wyatt came through with his own RBI single, allowing Scram to come home and give the Howlers a 6-5 lead. Erie would close out the inning with Johnson picking up an RBI single, allowing Rockett to come in and give the SeaWolves a 7-5 lead. Afterwards, the bullpen would shut down any comeback attempt from Bowie.
SeaWolves reliever Jared Gayhart (5-0) got the win, going 2.2 innings while giving up no runs on two hits, one walk, and two strikeouts. Austin Wood would earn his sixth save of the season, going 2/3 innings while giving up no runs on one hit, no walks, and one strikeout.
Starter Jay Voss ended up with a no-decision, going six innings, giving up five earned runs on seven hits with one walk and six strikeouts.
Baysox reliver Pedro Vola (3-2) got the loss, giving up two earned runs on one hit.
The SeaWolves will continue their eight-game homestand tomorrow night at 7:05p.m. LHP Drew Smyly (3-2, 0.93 ERA) will take the mound for the SeaWolves against RHP Oliver Drake (2-4, 5.71 ERA).
