TONIGHT: The Richmond Flying Squirrels and Akron Aeros will meet in game two of a four-game series...The Flying Squirrels scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to break through a 1-1 tie and claim a 4-3 series-opening win over the Aeros on Thursday night in front of 2,401 fans at Canal Park

TONIGHT'S STARTERS: Left-hander David Quinowski will get the start in game two of the series for the Flying Squirrels...Making the first start of his professional career...Start was supposed to go to left-hander Eric Surkamp...Earned the win in his last outing 8/23 at Altoona...Did not allow a hit over three scoreless innings...Struck out two batters and walked one...Earned the win going a career-long 4 1/3 innings 4/25 against Trenton...Went four innings and suffered the loss in his next outing 4/30 in Richmond's 3-2, 18-inning loss at Bowie...Has limited left-handed batters to a .192 batting average against (14-for-73)...Right-handed batters are hitting .233 (28-for-120) against him...Has struck out 39 batters and walked 14 in 51 1/3 innings...Is the only Flying Squirrels relief pitcher and one of four pitchers overall (Ryan Verdugo, Justin Fitzgerald, and Clayton Tanner) to have spent the entire season on the Richmond roster...Appeared in 12 games with the Flying Squirrels in 2010 and went 2-0 with a 2.84 ERA whiel striking out 14 batters and walking five in 12 2/3 innings...Promoted to Richmond 8/2/10...Began the 2010 season with Advanced-A San Jose and went 3-2 with a 2.32 ERA in 28 games...Struck out 51 batters and walked 13 in 42 2/3 innings...Entered the 2011 season with more strikeouts than innings pitched in each of his first five professional seasons...Selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 46th round of the 2004 First-Year Player Draft (draft and follow)...Attended Riverside City College (CA) in 2005...Signed by the Giants 5/19/05.

THE PLAYOFF RACE: The Flying Squirrels enter tonight's game two with the Akron Aeros trailing the Bowie Baysox by 1 1/2 games for the Wild Card in the Western Division...The Baysox will play one fewer game (141) than the Flying Squirrels (142) this season...Bowie's magic number to eliminate Richmond is 10 with 11 games left in the season for both teams...Any combination of Baysox wins and Flying Squirrel losses that equal 10 would eliminate the club from playoff contention...Richmond will need to finish two games better than Bowie over the final 11 contests to overtake the Baysox for second place in the Western Division...The Flying Squirrels will play seven of their final 11 games against teams currently with records above .500 (Akron and New Britain) while the Baysox have no games left against teams with winning records (Erie and Altoona)...seven of Bowie's final 11 games are against Erie...The Harrisburg Senators magic number to eliminate the Flying Squirrels from winning the Western Division is eight entering play today.

ONE UPPING AKRON: The Flying Squirrels improved to 14-22 in one-run games with last night's 4-3 win in the series opener with Akron...Richmond is now 2-6 in one-run games in August as the team snapped a three-game losing streak in games decided by a lone run...Three of the Flying Squirrels' first five games on their current eight-game, seven-day road trip have been decided by one run...The club's .389 winning percentage in one-run contests is second-lowest in the Eastern League, ahead of only Portland's mark of .300 (9-21).

SUPER SAVER: Right-hander Heath Hembree recorded his 16th save in 17 tries with the Flying Squirrels last night...Overall in 50 games with

Advanced-A San Jose and Richmond, the 22-year-old has converted 37 saves in 40 save opportunities, leading all of MiLB...The South Carolina native converted 32 consecutive opportunities earlier this season, spanning from 4/16/11 to 7/29/11.

SAN FRANCISCO: Outfielder Francisco Peguero went 4-for-5 with two runs scored last night against the Aeros...It was his third four-game of the season for the 23-year-old and the 10th of his career, matching a career-high...It was the fourth time this season a Flying Squirrels batter collected four hits or more in a game, and two of the four have belonged to Peguero including his last four-hit performance 8/6 against Portland...He is currently 10-for-20 through the first five games of the road trip with a double, a homer, three RBIs, and five runs scored.

HOME AND AWAY: The Flying Squirrels are 43-24 overall at home - the best home record in the Eastern League - and they are the only team in the league with 40 or more wins at home...The club's 43 wins at home are tied for the sixth-most of all of the full-season teams in MiLB...They are batting .261 in 67 games at The Diamond while averaging 4.52 runs per game at home (303R/67G)....Overall, the club is 27-37 on the road, and is batting .226 and averaging 3.50 runs per game (224R/64G) in 64 road contests...The team plays seven of its final 11 games on the road.

PITCHING IN: The Flying Squirrels pitching staff leads the Eastern League with a 3.42 ERA through 131 games and has allowed a league-low 505 runs...Richmond's pitching staff has allowed two runs or less in 48 of its 131 games (37%)...Starting pitching has allowed three runs or less in 92 of the team's 131 games (70%) and the club is 62-30 in those contests.
