(Manchester, NH)-Anthony Gose led off the second game of a doubleheader with his 15th home run, but Harrisburg rallied for an 8-6 win to complete a sweep of a Friday twinbill
at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. The teams played two games in anticipation of the weekend visit by Hurricane Irene.
Harrisburg (76-57) won the opener 3-0, with 24-year old RHP Shairon Martis tossing a no-hitter. He walked just one (Callix Crabbe in the third inning) and struck out nine to improve to 8-5. It was the first time in franchise history that the Fisher Cats have been no-hit.
Derek Norris had an RBI single off Dustin McGowan (0-2) in the first inning of the opener and Chris Rahl and Tyler Moore hit solo home runs.
McGowan, making his fourth MLB Rehab start, working 4.2 innings. After allowing the Rahl homer, he retired the next ten Senators before leaving the game trailing 2-0. McGowan allowed three hits, did not walk a batter and struck out four.
Between games of the doubleheader, the Fisher Cats recognized Travis d'Arnaud as the Eastern League's Most Valuable Player and Sal Fasano as the Manager of the Year.
In the nightcap, Harrisburg scored four in the top of the first which included Moore's 30th home run.
The Fisher Cats (71-62) cut into the lead in the bottom of the first on the home run by Gose and a sacrifice fly by Moises Sierra.
Moore doubled home Norris in the third for a 5-2 lead for Harrisburg.
The lead was trimmed to 5-4 in the bottom of the third on a double by Danny Perales and a single by Yan Gomes. The Fisher Cats moved in front in the fifth. Crabbe and Mike McDade drew walks. Crabbe advanced to third on two wild pitches before scoring on a Sierra doubleplay. Perales doubled again, and scored on an error, to make it 6-5.
The Senators took the lead on a pinch-hit two-run homer with two outs in the top of the sixth inning. Tim Pahuta hit his home run off losing pitcher Bobby Korecky (3-3). They added a run in the seventh on an RBI double by Moore, who finished the second game 3-for-4 with 5 RBI.
