Harrisburg Senators News Release
On Friday night in game one of a doubleheader against New Hampshire, Shairon Martis threw the third no-hitter in Senators history as Harrisburg defeated New Hampshire 3-0.
The Senators scored single runs in the first, second and seventh innings and Martis made them stand up. Derek Norris singled off Dustin McGowan in the first inning to plate Erik Komatsu. Chris Rahl homered in the third and Tyler Moore added an insurance run in the seventh with his 29th home run on the season.
Meanwhile, Martis struck out nine and allowed just one base runner, a leadoff walk in the third inning. Martis then induced Jonathan Diaz to bounce into a double play and that was that. Martis struck out the side in the second and struck out two more in the fourth. In the sixth inning with one out, Diaz hit a bouncer wide of third that Tim Pahuta tracked down and threw to first for the out. In the seventh, Anthony Gose hit a line drive that shortstop Chris McConnell speared before Martis got John Tolisano to bounce out to first for the second out of the inning. Kevin Howard was all that stood between Martis and his no-hitter. Howard hit a looping line drive to third that Pahuta made the catch on to finish off the no-hitter and set off a celebration by the Senators on the mound.
Martis was greeted with a standing ovation by the fans in Manchester as he left the field.
The Senators are now 75-57, equaling their best record this season.
