Eight Warriors Alumni on NHL Opening Night Rosters

Moose Jaw, SK - The Moose Jaw Warriors will be well represented on opening night rosters in the National Hockey League with eight players cracking lineups around the league.

Former Warriors captain Brett Howden and the Vegas Golden Knights will raise their championship banner at T-Mobile Arena when they host the Seattle Kraken.

Howden is entering his third season with Vegas after posting six goals and 13 points in 57 games last season. He added five goals and 10 points in 22 games on the road to his first Stanley Cup.

Brayden Point, another former Warriors captain, will lead the Tampa Bay Lightning into an opening night matchup with the Nashville Predators on Tuesday.

Point recorded his first 50-goal season in 2022-23 with the Lightning, finishing with 51 goals and 95 points in 82 games. He now has 218 goals and 463 points in 499 career games with Tampa Bay, including two Stanley Cups.

Point is joined on the Lightning by Tanner Jeannot, who was traded to Tampa Bay from Nashville last season. Jeannot had six goals and 18 points in 76 games between the Lightning and Predators.

Morgan Rielly begins his 11th season with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday when they take on the rival Montreal Canadiens to open the season.

Rielly posted four goals and 41 points in 65 games last season. He has 73 goals and 414 points over 719 career games in the NHL.

Rielly will be joined by Noah Gregor on the Maple Leafs' opening night roster. Gregor attended Toronto's training camp on a professional tryout agreement and signed a one-year contract on Tuesday.

Gregor posted a career-high 10 goals and finished with 17 points in 57 games with the San Jose Sharks last season.

Jiri Smejkal heads into his NHL rookie season with the Ottawa Senators when they face-off with the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday night.

The former Warriors import forward signed with the Senators in the offseason after playing seven seasons of pro hockey in Europe.

Dryden Hunt heads into his first season with the Calgary Flames when they face off with the Winnipeg Jets to open the season on Wednesday.

Hunt appeared in 37 games with the New York Rangers, Colorado Avalanche and Maple Leafs last season, posting three goals.

Joel Edmundson will start his ninth NHL season on injured reserve as he recovers from a hand injury.

Edmundson is heading into his first season with the Washington Capitals after signing in the American capital in the offseason. He had two goals and 13 points in 61 games last season with Montreal.

The NHL kicks off its 2023-24 season on Tuesday night with three games.
