
WHL Announces Weekly Award Winners

Calgary, Alta. - The Western Hockey League announced today Wenatchee Wild forward Easton Armstrong has been named Tempo WHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 8, 2023.
Armstrong, who attended Los Angeles Kings training camp as a free agent invitee this fall, recorded seven points, including five goals, in two games this week as the Wild went 2-1-0-0 on a B.C. Division road trip.
The 6-foot-3, 204-pound product of Los Angeles, Calif., registered two goals, including the game-winning tally, in a 6-3 win Saturday, October 7 at Prince George. He was named the game's Second Star.
The 20-year-old right winger followed up Saturday's effort with a five-point performance Sunday, October 8 at Kamloops, scoring the overtime-winning goal to complete the hat trick. Armstrong also collected two assists in Wenatchee's come-from-behind victory and was named the Third Star of the contest.
Since returning from training camp with the Los Angeles Kings, Armstrong has secured nine points (6G-3A) in four games with the Wild. He is tied for second in scoring on the Club.
Originally selected by the Regina Pats in the 10th round (214th overall) of the 2018 WHL Draft, Armstrong has accumulated 52 points (32G-20A) in 152 career WHL Regular Season outings.
Easton Armstrong and the Wenatchee Wild return to action Friday, October 13 at Seattle (7:05 p.m. PT).
REBELS NETMINDER KELSEY NAMED WHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK
Calgary, Alta. - The Western Hockey League announced today Red Deer Rebels netminder Kyle Kelsey has been named WHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending October 8, 2023.
Kelsey, 19, turned aside 33 of 34 shots Saturday, October 7 to backstop his Club to a 3-1 home victory over the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
With his Club outshot 34-29, the product of Maple Ridge, B.C., stood tall, including steering away all 11 pucks sent his way during the third period.
Through three games this season, the veteran Kelsey is 1-2-0-0 with a 2.72 goals-against average and .919 save percentage.
Originally selected by the Moose Jaw Warriors in the fifth round (107th overall) of the 2019 WHL Draft, Kelsey has appeared in 40 career WHL Regular Season contests, registering a record of 22-13-2-3 with a 2.65 GAA, .908 SV% and four shutouts.
Kyle Kelsey and the Red Deer Rebels return to action open a four-game stretch on the road Friday, October 13 (7 p.m. MT) when they visit the Regina Pats.
COUGARS FORWARD PARASCAK NAMED WHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Calgary, Alta. - The Western Hockey League announced today Prince George Cougars forward Terik Parascak has been named WHL Rookie of the Week for the week ending October 8, 2023.
Parascak, 17, recorded six points (4G-2A) in four games this week as the Cougars went 3-1-0-0 at home.
This marks the second consecutive week Parascak has been named WHL Rookie of the Week.
After being held off the scoresheet for the first time this season (October 3 vs. Kelowna), Parascak responded with a three-point performance (2G-1A) Wednesday, October 4 in an 8-1 win over the Rockets. His second goal of the game stood up as the game-winner and he was named First Star for his efforts.
The 5-foot-11, 179-pound right winger recorded two more goals Friday, October 6 in a 6-4 win over the visiting Wenatchee Wild. He opened the scoring with a power-play strike in the first period before adding an even-strength tally in the third period. Parascak was named the game's Second Star.
Parascak rounded out his weekend with one primary assist Saturday, October 7 in a 6-3 loss versus Wenatchee.
Originally selected by the Cougars in the fourth round (76th overall) of the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft, Parascak has tallied 18 points (12G-6A) in eight games this season, good enough to sit second in the WHL among all point-getters. He leads all rookie skaters in scoring, with a seven-point advantage over the nearest competitor.
Terik Parascak and the Prince George Cougars return to action Wednesday, October 11 (7 p.m. PT) when they host the Swift Current Broncos at CN Centre.
