Ehlers homers and drives in three as Trenton blows out Reading 11-1

Reading, PA)- Trenton 1B Cody Ehlers had a HR and 3 RBI as the Thunder routed Reading 11-1 on Saturday night at First Energy Stadium in Reading, PA. Trenton broke its four-game losing streak with the lopsided victory. The Thunder have now won seven of eight games so far this season against Reading.

Trenton (42-25) jumped on Reading starting pitcher Kip Bouknight (3-7) early on. With two outs in the first inning and runners at first and second, Ehlers delivered a two-out two-run double to give the Thunder a 2-0 lead. The Thunder exploded for four more runs in the second inning. 3B Chris Malec hit a one-out solo home run to extend Trenton's lead to 3-1. Later in the frame, SS Ramira Pena connected on an RBI triple, and CF Austin Jackson blasted a two-run home run. In the third inning, Trenton once again plated four runs. The big hit in the frame was a three-run double by DH Colin Curtis. Curtis finished the game with 3 hits. Bouknight took the loss as he gave up 8 H and 6 ER in 1.2 IP. Ehlers capped off the scoring for Trenton with a solo home run in the 6th inning off of Reading reliever Joe Valentine. The home run for Ehlers was his 7th of the season, and first since May 5th. Every Thunder player scored a run with the exception of PH Eladio Rodriguez. And every player had at least one hit with the exception of RF Jose Tabata and Rodriguez.

Trenton starting pitcher Eric Hacker (1-0) earned his first Double-A victory as he went 6 IP. He scattered 6 H and 1 ER. The only run he allowed was a solo home run to Reading SS Jason Donald in the 1st inning. He struck out 4 and walked 1. He did not allow a hit after the 3rd inning. Thunder reliever Anthony Claggett tossed three scoreless innings in relief of Hacker to pick up his 4th save of the season. Claggett has gone seven straight appearances for the Thunder without giving up a run (13 IP)

Trenton and Reading will play the rubber game of the three-game series on Sunday afternoon. Game time is set for 1:05 p.m. RHP George Kontos (2-5, 3.38) will start for Trenton against Reading LHP Fabio Castro (4-0, 4.24).
