The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the week ending May 30th:

Trenton Thunder third baseman Brandon Laird has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week ending May 30th. The 6'1", 215 lb. slugger had an outstanding week for the Thunder, batting .448 (13-for-29) with four doubles, one triple, two home runs, 11 RBI, eight runs scored and a .862 slugging percentage while leading his team to a 5-2 record. The highlight of the week for the 22-year old came on Wednesday night at Waterfront Park when Brandon completed hitting for the cycle with a two-out, two-run walk-off homer in a 7-6 victory over Erie. Laird became the first Eastern League player to hit for the cycle since Bowie's Lou Montanez accomplished the feat on August 1st, 2008 against Altoona. The Cypress, California native tied for first among all Eastern League players in doubles (4) last week and also ranked among the weekly leaders in hits (13-2nd), RBI (11-2nd), batting average (.448-2nd), runs scored (8-tied 2nd), extra-base hits (7-tied 2nd), total bases (25-3rd), slugging percentage (.862-3rd) and OPS (1.310-3rd). Brandon, who is batting .310 for the Thunder this season and currently leads the league in RBI (50) and total bases (106), was selected by the New York Yankees in the 27th round of the 2007 draft out of Cypress Junior College in California
