Published on June 1, 2010 under Eastern League (EL1)
New Britain Rock Cats News Release
New Britain, CT - With the calendar now reading "June" - and one-third of the 2010 Eastern League Baseball Season already in the books - the refashioned Rock Cats are continuing to strive mightily to increase their number of early season victories. The team from the Hardware City has now brought its determined ways back home, and will open their Fifth Homestand of the 2010 Season tonight at New Britain Stadium. The Rock Cats are prepared to do baseball battle for the next six days (and nights) with two Eastern League opponents who are themselves both talented and motivated to get off to strong starts. The `Cats first opponent - in town for the next three days - is the Altoona Curve, merely the winningest team in the circuit. The EL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates is fifteen games above .500 and currently leads the Western Division by 6 full games. Not surprisingly, they bring a slew of top Prospects into Connecticut in what will be their sole visit of 2010; the rejuvenated Rock Cats will have their hands full with this crew of Baby Bucs. Once they sail out of town, in come the Binghamton Mets for a clash of Eastern Division teams seeking to finally generate some meaningful traction. This longtime partner of the New York Mets will be with us from Friday evening (6/4) to Sunday afternoon (6/6). Both of these visiting clubs should be great fun to watch, and all the attendant baseball drama starts at 6:35 PM tonight.
Here are some additional details about the Rock Cats' 5th Homestand of 2010:
TUESDAY NIGHT, JUNE 1ST, 6:35 PM:
The Curve from Altoona swing into town on Tuesday night at 6:35 PM for the first of three games in the Hardware City. Tuesday night is also an occasion when the first 1,500 children (12-and-under) through the gates will receive a free Kids Backpack, courtesy of our friends at Comcast. These are terrific items for toting a family's "stuff" around all Summer! Moreover, as it's Tuesday night, it's also Kids Eat Free Night in New Britain, meaning that every child 12-years-and-under will receive a voucher upon entry for a free Hot Dog and Drink; Kids Eat Free Night is sponsored by Bimbo (pronounced BEAM-BO) Breads, the wide-ranging bakery. Lastly - another Tuesday feature this season is the special KRAFT Singles Tuesday Night Ticket Offer: All one needs to do is buy one regularly priced Rock Cats ticket and - with the presentation of a Kraft Singles wrapper - you will receive a second, adjacent ticket, free! Tasty deal.
WEDNESDAY MORNING, JUNE 2ND, 10:35 AM:
It's late Spring in New England and, in response to a growing number of fan requests, the Rock Cats and Altoona will play another 10:35 AM Morning Game at the Stadium. When the weather cooperates, these are totally delightful start times for fans of all ages in Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. To sweeten the pot even further, our friends from the Talcott Mountain Science Center will be with us to explain how local wind currents might interact with a high fly ball or split-fingered fastball. The good people at Dattco Transportation and Achieve Financial are the sponsors of this, our fourth Baseball in Education Day of the 2010 Season. Many good seats remain available for business people looking to bring their morning coffee to the ball park, escorted school kids who are able to join us, and retirees who can see a professional baseball game and still get home in time for a nap! Come on down for some morning fun!
THURSDAY NIGHT, JUNE 3RD, 6:35 PM:
The Altoona Curve's only trip of the year to New Britain will conclude with this 6:35 PM contest on Thursday night. And while the big club in Pittsburgh continues to struggle, their Double-A farm team is loaded with talent and leading the Eastern League in Wins. Hang on Bucco fans: HELP IS ON THE WAY! Speaking of "help", it's also Auto Mechanics Night at the Stadium, when we will humbly doff our caps to those hard-working individuals who keep our cars running and safely on the road. Also loosely under the same category, fans can lift their spirits further by enjoying the evening's pre-game Twisted Tea Happy Hour starting at 5:35 PM in the Samuel Adams Roof Top Bar & Grill. There will be Food and Drink Specials in the open air Bar and Grill while the Rock Cats and Curve perform down on the field - while the Red Sox, Yankees, Mets, and Celts-Lakers go at it on the above-bar TV screens! Total entertainment - total fun!
FRIDAY NIGHT, JUNE 4TH, 6:35 PM:
With Altoona now motoring out of town, here come the Binghamton Mets, EL partners of the New York Metropolitans, for their second and final trip of 2010 to New Britain. Like the Rock Cats, the B-Mets have been up and down this season and are looking to kick things into gear. The Friday night fun at the Stadium will start early with a Heineken Happy Hour, with Food and Drink specials featuring Heineken and Heineken Light Cans in the upper level Heineken Hot Corner, starting at 5:05 PM.
Friday night is also the first of several FRITO'S Family Fridays at the Stadium, whereby fans enjoying America's Pastime with FRITO'S Corn Chips will be randomly selected to take part in special ballpark experiences like throwing out a ceremonial first pitch, and more! After the game action ends on the field, stick around as there will also be a Spectacular Post-Game Fireworks Show, thanks to the good people at Stanley, Black & Decker. Whamo!
SATURDAY NIGHT, JUNE 5TH, 6:35 PM:
The B-Mets will be with us again for the middle game of this 3-game set. And once again, the good times begin to roll early at the Stadium. There is a Saturday night Pre-Game Block Party just outside the Stadium Main Gates, starting at 5:00 PM. Fans of all ages are free to sample inflatables, games, and other fun activities made possible by our friends at D'Angelo's and Guida's Milk and Ice Cream. In the midst of the Block Party, a number of Rock Cats players will join in the fun by greeting attendees and signing autographs. Saturday evening is also the season's first "Fan Choice" T-Shirt Giveaway Night, whereby fans get a free t-shirt featuring a Rock Cats player. In a close vote, fans voted RHP Carlos Gutierrez as the player they wanted featured on the series' first shirt. A most worthy choice! Lastly, Saturday night is also "Sammy Saturday" - when fans are offered terrific Food and Drink Specials in the Samuel Adams Roof Top Bar and Grill. Join us if you can.
SUNDAY AFTERNOON, JUNE 6TH, 1:35 PM:
Sundays are very special at New Britain Stadium, thanks to the Barnum Financial Group partnering with the Rock Cats to make all home Sundays Family Fun Days!
