Tim Alderson Named E.L. Pitcher Of The Week

CURVE, Pa - Altoona Curve right-hander Tim Alderson has been named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the for the week ending May 30.

Alderson becomes the second Altoona Curve hurler to win the award as RHP Jared Hughes took home the honors of the Week for the week ending May 16.

The 21-year old made a pair of starts for the Curve last week and had a record of 2-0 with 10 strikeouts and a 0.69 ERA. Alderson, who is a native of Scottsdale, Arizona, made his first start of the week on Monday night at Akron, dominating the Aeros in an 11-1 win by giving up just four hits and striking out five batters over seven shutout innings of work. The 6'6", 217 lb.hurler made his second start of the week on Saturday night against the visiting Reading Phillies and earned the win in Altoona's 7-3 victory. He struck out five batters and walked three while giving up just one run on four hits in six innings of work to improve his record to 4-2 on the season and lower his ERA to 4.75.

Alderson, who combined for a record of 9-2 with 64 strikeouts and a 3.88 ERA in 20 starts with the Connecticut Defenders and Altoona Curve last season, was acquired by the Pittsburgh Pirates in a trade with the San Francisco Giants for second baseman Freddy Sanchez on July 29, 2009. He was originally selected by San Francisco in the first round of the 2007 draft with the 22nd overall pick out of Horizon High School in Scottsdale, Arizona.
