New Britain Rock Cats News Release

NEW BRITAIN, CT - Altoona's Jared Hughes dominated New Britain's lineup on the way to his Eastern League-best eighth victory of the season as the Curve downed the Rock Cats, 4-1 on Tuesday night.

In a game that was delayed by half an hour due to rain, it was the Rock Cats who took an early lead when the action finally got underway. Ben Revere led off the bottom of the first with a base hit to right and stole second base - his team-leading 19th - before moving to third on Brandon Roberts' sacrifice bunt. Rene Tosoni's groundout to second base knocked in Revere for the first run of the game.

Rock Cats starter David Bromberg labored through 5 1/3 innings, but effectively kept Altoona off the board through the first four innings. The Curve finally broke through in the fifth when Kris Watts led off with a line drive double to right and came around to score later in the inning on Gorkys Hernandez' sacrifice fly to center that tied the game.

The Curve took the lead in the next inning on an RBI double by Chase d'Arnaud that knocked Bromberg out of the game. Bromberg (2-4) finished with two runs on nine hits and three walks.

Hughes (8-2), who was born in Stanford, CT but attended school in California, limited the Rock Cats to one run on five hits through seven innings. He struck out six. Danny Moskos notched his 12th save of the season by striking out the side in the ninth.

Altoona tacked on two more runs in the ninth, including an RBI single by Josh Harrison.
