Eagles Dethrone Riverkings, 5-2

Windsor, CO - The Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League (CHL) won their eighth game at home, 13th game of the season, in the presence of a sold out, 5,211, fans at the Budweiser Events Center against the Memphis River Kings, 5-2. The Colorado Eagles have sold out every home game of their inaugural 2003-04 season. The RiverKings are now 14-6-0 and have 28 points, Memphis is now second in the league behind Laredo. Eagles left winger Ryan Tobler had 2 goals and an assist, right winger Greg Pankewicz scored a goal and tallied 3 assists, defenseman Brad Williamson netted a goal, and left winger Mike McGhan scored a goal as well. Defenseman Scott Swanson had 3 assists and center Riley Nelson tallied an assist on the night. The Eagles are now 13-5-1 on the season.

The first period was scoreless, but full of penalties, eight in all. The Eagles had four minors and one major in the period, while the RiverKings had two minors and one major. The period ended with a at an even 0-0.

The second period remained scoreless until the RiverKings struck, twice. RiverKings center Alexandre Mathieu netted a power play goal 8:32 into the period from defensemen Juraj Durco and David Turon. Only fifty four seconds later Memphis sruck again when right winger Brent Ozarowski scored an unassisted goal. The Eagles didn't take long to strike back. Eagles defenseman Brad Williamson netted a power play goal (13:19) from defenseman Scott Swansnon and right winger Greg Pankewicz. Twenty seven seconds later the Eagles took advantage of another power play when left winger Ryan Tobler scored from center Riley Nelson and Pankewicz. The period ended even again, at 2-2.

The Eagles dominated in the third period. Two minutes five seconds into the period Tobler netted the game winning goal and his second power play goal from Pankewicz and Swanson. The Eagles took full advantage of an empty RiverKings net at the end of the period when left winger Mike McGhan netted an unassisted goal (18:59) and when Pankewiz scored thirty nine seconds later (19:38) from Tobler and Swason. The Eagles were victorious over the RiverKings, 5-2.

Eagles goaltender Ryan Bach saved 25 of 27 shots on goal. The Eagles out-shot the Memphis RiverKings 37 to 27. The Colorado Eagles are now 13-5-1 on the season with 27 points. The Eagles are first in the Northwest Division and are third in the league overall with the Amarillo Gorillas.
