Remi Royer skated for the Indianapolis Ice for the first time since 1999 and scored a goal and added an assist in leading Indianapolis past the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 4-1. Royer, a first round draft choice of the Chicago Blackhawks, signed a contract with the Ice prior to Saturday night's game at the Pepsi Coliseum.

"I've been sitting around and waiting for a place to play," said Royer. "Unfortunately, Russ Guzior got injured. I happened to be around town and got with Ken. The last thing I want to do is take anybody's spot. That's what happened to me in the American Hockey League. I am going to give it my all, finish checks and skate hard and we'll see what happens."

A veteran of 305 professional games, Royer first donned an Ice sweater in 1996 as a rookie. In all, Royer played in 69 games for the IHL Ice before moving on to play for the Chicago Blackhawks and nine other minor league teams. Guzior was placed on the 45 day injured list with a detached retina.

The line of Royer, Jason Baird and David Gilmore accounted for all four Ice goals. Gilmore took over the Ice lead in scores with nine by notching two goals and adding an assist. Baird scored as well while chipping in an assist.

"We knew we had to get to them early," said Baird. "As a team we have made a lot of stupid mistakes this season, but we are really starting to learn from them. Hopefully tonight's win will propel us into the right direction"

Rookie netminder Brent Zelenewich turned aside 29 Mudbug shots en route to his fourth win of the season. A perfect night for Zelenewich was thwarted by a third period goal off the stick of Bossier-Shreveport forward Forbes MacPherson.

"Really the credit should all go to the guys in front of me," said Zelenewich. "I had a lot of confidence going in but everything really came from the peripheral. The puck was just hitting me."

Indianapolis returns to the ice Friday night for a 7:05 start at the Pepsi Coliseum against the Tulsa Oilers.
