Indianapolis Ice News Release
INDIANAPOLIS, IN-- The Indianapolis Ice announced today the signing of defenseman Remi Royer (ROHY-AY). Royer, who is expected to be in uniform tonight, will replace forward Russ Guzior on the roster, who was placed on the 45-Day Injured Reserve List.
Royer, the Chicago Blackhawks' first choice in the 1996 NHL Draft, returns to the city where he began his pro career back in 1997. He played parts of three years with the IHL Ice and gathered 22 points (4G, 18A) and 185 penalty minutes in 69 regular season games. He also saw action in 12 playoff games and recorded three points (1G, 2A) and 56 penalty minutes.
"Remi is a welcomed addition at this time," said Ice Head Coach Ken McRae. "He'll bring more of a physical presence and toughness to our line-up immediately. He also skates and moves the puck well and can chip in offensively."
Before joining Indy for the brunt of the 1998-99 season, the 25-year-old defenseman played 18 NHL games with the "Hawks," collecting 67 penalty minutes. He is entering his sixth full season as a pro which has included stops in the NHL, International Hockey League (IHL), American Hockey League (AHL) and East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). Overall numbers include 89 points (21G, 68A) and 1,089 penalty minutes in 304 games.
He spent last season with Houston (AHL) and Florida and Reading of the ECHL. He played the majority of the year with Reading where he compiled 14 points (7G, 7A) and a team-leading 186 penalty minutes in just 29 games.
The Ice hosts the Shreveport Mudbugs tonight at 7:00 p.m. from the Pepsi Coliseum. Tickets for tonight's game which also features the "Teddy Bear Toss" range from $10-$15 and can be purchased at all Ticketmaster locations including select Marsh Supermarkets, Karma Records, select L.S.
