
Eagles Beat Wichita 5-1

LOVELAND, CO- The Colorado Eagles scored five unanswered goals Friday night in a 5-1 win over the Wichita Thunder at the Budweiser Events Center. It marked the Eagles first win in five tries over the Thunder dating back to last season. Sean Robertson and Chris Hartsburg each had one goal and two assists and Eagles' newly acquired goaltender Marco Emond saved 23 of 24 shots for Colorado's first win of the 2006-07 season. The Eagles finished 2-12 on the power play while Wichita was only 1-11 in another penalty filled night. The Eagles are now 1-1-0 with 2 points and will face off against the New Mexico Scorpions Saturday night at the Budweiser Events Center at 7:05pm.
The Thunder took an early lead 3:18 into the first period on a power play goal by Scott Rozendal. Ryan McLean centered a pass to Rozendal who one timed the puck into the net from the doorstep of Eagles goaltender Marco Emond. The Eagles answered with a power play goal of their own at the 12:02 mark of the period on a backdoor feed from Sean Robertson to a streaking Chris Hartsburg for his first goal of the season. Aaron Schneekloth also assisted with Robertson for his first point in an Eagles uniform. A little over one minute later, Konrad Reeder scored his first professional goal as he was being hassled by two Wichita defenders. Reeder scored a five-hole goal from in between the circles and was assisted by Sean Robertson for his second assist of the night. The scored remained 2-1 going into the first intermission in favor of Colorado.
The Eagles took a 3-1 lead on a goal by Sean Robertson, his third point of the night. Chris Hartsburg fed Greg Pankewicz along the right wing boards and he centered the puck to Robertson for his first goal of the season. The Eagles continued their pressure and Erik Adams scored his first goal of the season and fourth point on a slapshot that went through traffic and beat Thunder goaltender Sebastien Laplante. The second period ended with the Eagles up 4-1 and leading on the shot chart 20-12.
After two late Wichita penalties in the second period, the Eagles opened up the third period with a five-on-three power play. Only 42 seconds into the period Greg Pankewicz scored fourth goal of the season on a one-timer from the right circle. The goal gave Pankewicz a seven-game goal-scoring streak dating back to last season and the Eagles a 5-1 lead. That goal turned out to be the final goal of the game giving the Eagles their first victory of the season.
