TONIGHT'S OPPONENT

The Rayz welcomed over 5,400 fans to the American Bank Center last Saturday night to kick off the 2006-2007 hockey season, but the Laredo Bucks spoiled the party. A three-goal second period lifted Laredo past Corpus Christi as the Bucks beat the Rayz 4-2 on opening night...The Rayz brought in Ron Vogel to replace last year's starting goalie Scott Reid. Brent Zelenewich is a more than capable backup...Geno Parrish is a veteran D-man who should fill Bernie John's skates nicely...Blair Stayzer and Jason Baird are healthy and back in the lineup after missing most of last season with injury.

NOTES OF THE NIGHT

- Bees goalie Mathieu Blanchard was named the Oakley CHL Goalie of the Week after earning a win in his first pro start.

- Jonathan Robert notched a pair of goals in his first pro game. Both he and Blanchard were teammates at the University of Ottawa.

- Jason Cirone was named Captain by head Coach Paul Fixter and Assistant Coach Sean Gillam. Dennis Maxwell was named full time alternate captain, while Bill Newson and Kurtis Dulle were named rotating alternates.

- The Bees saw seven players dress/appear in their first regular season pro games on opening night; Cummings, Casey, Bickel, Blanchette, Robert, Mathieu, Blanchard.

KILLER BEES TEAM NOTES

BEES ON THE BUS

49 SHOTS ON OPENING NIGHT

The Bees tested Arizona's Kris Mayotte with 49 shots on opening night but surprisingly did not set a CHL early high-water mark. Oklahoma City poured 50 shots on Bossier-Shreveport on Oct. 20 en route to a 5-3 win. Goalie John Decaro made 49 saves, as the 50th shot was an empty-net goal.
