Shorthanded Goals Doom Ice Bats, 4-2

October 27, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Austin Ice Bats News Release

The Lubbock Cotton Kings scored three shorthanded goals to move past the Austin Ice Bats, 4-2 Friday night at Chaparral Ice Arena. The loss evens the Ice Bats' early season record at 1-1. The Bats got off to a fast start with a Mike Tucciarone goal 5:22 into the contest, and a Julian Smith score just 59 seconds later. But Lubbock cut the lead in half on former Ice Bat Bobby Brown's power play goal late in the first. In the second, Ice Bats errors led to two of the shorthanded scores. Stacey Bauman tied the score at 2:26, and Simon Watson the eventual winner midway through the period. The Ice Bats made a furious attempt to tie the score late, but Brown's second goal, a shorthanded empty-netter, wrapped it up in the final seconds. The Bats outshot the Cotton Kings, 44-24, but Lubbock goalie Kyle Stanton made 42 stops. The Ice Bats play their first road game Saturday in Corpus Christi, then return for a home game Sunday against division rival Laredo. A free post-game skate with the players follows Sunday's contest.
