Mudbugs Stopped Short by RiverKings

October 27, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

SOUTHAVEN, MS -- The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs' offense came up anemic in their first game of the year againt Memphis, losing 3-1. Memphis goaltender Larry Sterling put on a great performance between the pipes, holding the Bugs to only one goal.

The RiverKings got the scoring started on a rebound in the first period when Derrick Campbell found the back of the net and beat Ken Carroll. Darrell Stoddard would follow up only a few minutes later scoring from right in front of the net to give Memphis a two goal lead going into the first intermission.

The Mudbugs suffered a defensive breakdown in the second period when Ryan Helm was left all alone in front of the net. He scored to make it a three nothing deficit for the Mudbugs, which would hold for the majority of the game.

Chris Brassard finally answered for Bossier-Shreveport when the RiverKings became caught up in confusion with too many men on the ice. Brassard flew up the right wing and slipped the puck past Sterling for the only Mudbugs goal.

The Bugs will get a second crack at Memphis tomorrow night at 7:05pm at the Desoto Civic Center.
