Duckworth named Indians Player of the Month

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indians right-hander Brandon Duckworth has been named the team's Player of the Month for May. The 30-year-old went 5-0 with a 3.15 ERA over six starts during the month. He also struck out 30 while limiting opponents to a .236 batting average.

Duckworth reeled off four consecutive victories from May 14-30, striking out a season high on May 14 against Durham (7.0 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 8 SO). He also recorded five-or-more punchouts on May 9 at Charlotte (6.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 6 SO), May 25 at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (7.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 5 SO) and May 30 at Syracuse (6.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 SO).

The Salt Lake City native leads the International League in wins (8) heading into Monday night's start against Pawtucket. His 2.55 ERA is currently good for eighth in the IL.

Duckworth helped Indianapolis to a 17-10 record in May and seven-game lead over second-place Toledo in the league's West Division. He was also one of seven Tribe hurlers to register an ERA of under 3.20 during the month.
