Gwinnett Stripers News Release
Ft. Mill, SC - The Richmond Braves beat the Charlotte Knights 2-1 at Knights' Stadium Monday. The Braves Scott Thorman hit his fourth home run in four games and the Braves bullpen stretched a shutout streak to 11 innings as Richmond opened an eight game road trip with a win.
The Braves took a 1-0 lead in the third on an RBI single by Thorman. He hit his club-leading 13th home run in the fifth to give the Braves 2-0 advantage. Chris Stewart's sacrifice fly in the home half cut the Braves lead in half but Richmond relievers Wayne Franklin and Manny Acosta blanked the first-place Knights the rest of the way.
Lance Cormier was the winning pitcher. Acosta notched a save. Sean Tracey took the loss. Thorman had two hits and has seven RBI in the last two games. Josh Fields and Ryan Sweeney had two hits each for Charlotte.
The Braves and Knights meet again Tuesday at 7:15. Richmond returns home June 13 vs. Louisville.
