Ducks sign defenseman Jordan Smith to amateur tryout contract

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Cincinnati Mighty Ducks general manager Chuck Fletcher announced today that the American Hockey League (AHL) club has signed defenseman Jordan Smith from the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) to an amateur tryout contract.

Smith, 19, was selected by Anaheim in the second round (39th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. In 64 games this season, the 6-foot-2, 220-pounder had five goals and 27 assists with 126 penalty minutes. He was named "Best Defensive Defenseman" and "Best Body Checker" in the Western Conference in the 2004-05 OHL Coaches Poll.

Smith will be available to make his professional debut tonight when the Ducks face the Houston Aeros at 7:35 p.m. at Cincinnati Gardens.
