Bears look to claw within one point of the playoffs tonight

Hershey Bears News Release

The late season surge by HERSHEY coupled with a Wilkes-Barre/Scranton slide that has reached seven losses in a row has the BEARS in position tonight to close within one point of a playoff spot tonight at Wachovia Arena in Wilkes-Barre.

The Penguins dropped both games in hand on the BEARS this week, with a 4-2 loss against Philadelphia on Sunday and a 3-1 defeat Wednesday night against Binghamton. HERSHEY stands three points back of the Penguins entering play tonight with both teams having six games remaining. The BEARS have not played since last Saturday's overtime victory over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

Martin Hlinka and Marek Svatos have paced the HERSHEY offense in the eight previous encounters with the Penguins in 2004-05. Hlinka has 10 points in eight games against Wilkes-Barre, while Svatos has collected four goals and seven points when the Penguins are the opposition. Svatos also has two game-winning goals versus Wilkes-Barre this season, including a goal with 1.9 seconds remaining in regulation on March 30 to seal a 3-2 HERSHEY victory.

Tonight's game can be heard via the BEARS radio network. John Walton and injured BEARS defenseman Dean Arsene have the call of the game beginning at 6:45 p.m. from northeast PA. HERSHEY plays the final two home regular season games this weekend at GIANT Center, with the Philadelphia Phantoms up first on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. The final home date of the regular season is Sunday when the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins visit at 5:00 p.m. Tickets for both games are available at the GIANT Center box office, or by calling (717) 534-3911.
