Ducks and Admirals Announce Transactions

ANAHEIM, Calif. - The Anaheim Ducks, NHL parent club of the AHL's Norfolk Admirals and the ECHL's Fort Wayne Komets, have reassigned defensemen Jordan Hendry and Sami Vatanen to the Admirals. In addition, the Ducks have recalled goaltender Jeff Deslauriers (deh-LAW-ree-ay) from the Admirals and have reassigned goaltender Marco Cousineau (MAHR-coh COO-sih-noh) to the Admirals from the Komets.

Hendry, 6-foot-0, 197 pounds, has appeared in 31 games for the Admirals this season, netting two goals and four points with 33 penalty minutes. The 27-year-old native of Lanigan, Saskatchewan, has appeared in two games with the Ducks this season and is scoreless while averaging 17:35 of ice time.

In 130 career NHL games between the Ducks and Chicago Blackhawks, Hendry has four goals and 13 points with 40 penalty minutes. He has also skated in 15 career Stanley Cup Playoff games and won the 2010 Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks. Hendry has appeared in 230 career AHL games between the Admirals, Rockford IceHogs and Houston Aeros, netting 13 goals and 43 points with 241 penalty minutes. He has also appeared in nine career Calder Cup Playoff games, posting two assists and 12 penalty minutes.

Hendry was signed by Anaheim as a free agent on July 1, 2012. In 110 career collegiate games with the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, Hendry posted 11 goals and 36 points. He was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Blackhawks on July 17, 2006.

Vatanen, 5-foot-10, 185 pounds, has appeared in 34 games for Norfolk in 2012-13, scoring four goals and 23 points with 30 penalty minutes. He leads all club defensemen in goals, assists and points, and leads all club rookies in assists and points.

The 21-year-old native of Jyväskylä, Finland, made his NHL debut on Feb. 1st with the Ducks vs. Minnesota. In three games with Anaheim, Vatanen was scoreless with a plus-1 rating and 15:19 of average ice time.

Vatanen is skating in his first North American professional season after three years playing in the Finnish Elite League (SM-liiga). He was selected by Anaheim in the fourth round (106th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Vatanen was named the SM-liiga defenseman of the year and was named to the league's postseason All-Star team in both 2010-11 and 2011-12. In 156 career games with JyP Jyväskylä in the SM-liiga, Vatanen posted 32 goals and 103 points with 144 penalty minutes.

Cousineau, 6-feet, 205-pounds, has appeared in nine games this season for the Komets, posting a 3-5-0 record with a 3.41 GAA and .889 SV%. He has appeared in six career AHL games - all with Syracuse last season - posting a 3-2-0 record with a 3.32 GAA and .904 SV%. Cousineau has had one prior stint with the Admirals this season, appearing on the roster from Dec. 15-31 without seeing any game action.

The 23-year-old from St. Lazare, Québec, has split his first three seasons of professional hockey between the AHL, ECHL and CHL. In 54 career ECHL games between the Komets and Elmira Jackals, he has a 22-18-5 record with a 3.28 GAA and .897 SV%. In 25 career CHL games with the Allen Americans, Cousineau has a 16-4-4 record with a 2.53 GAA and .911 save percentage.

Selected by Anaheim in the third round (83rd overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Cousineau played 176 games in the QMJHL from 2006-07 through 2009-10 between Baie-Comeau, Drummondville, Prince Edward Island and Saint John. Cousineau re-signed with Anaheim on July 17, 2012.

Deslauriers, 6-foot-4, 201-pounds, earned his first Norfolk win last night by stopping 31 of 32 shots in a 4-1 win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at Norfolk Scope Arena. In two games with the Admirals this season, Deslauriers has posted a 1-1-0 record with a 3.51 goals-against average (GAA) and .889 save percentage (SV%). A 28-year-old native of St. Jean-sur-Richelieu, Québec, Deslauriers has appeared in 190 career AHL games between Norfolk, Syracuse, Oklahoma City, Springfield, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Hamilton and Edmonton, going 83-82-14 with seven shutouts, a 2.89 GAA and .904 SV%. He has also appeared in one Calder Cup Playoff game in 2011 with Oklahoma City.

Deslauriers has appeared in 62 career NHL games between the Ducks and Edmonton Oilers, posting a 23-32-4 record with three shutouts, a 3.24 GAA and .901 SV%. Last season, he appeared in four games with Anaheim, going 3-1-0 with a 2.74 GAA and .903 SV%.

Originally selected by Edmonton in the second round (31st overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Deslauriers appeared in 150 career junior games in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) with Chicoutimi from 2001-02 through 2003-04. He signed with the Ducks on July 9, 2011.
