Duck Side Strikes Back, 7-3 Win over the 'Dogs

Portland, Maine - The Akron RubberDucks (20-29) were powered by three home runs and cruised to a 7-3 victory over the Sea Dogs (25-24) in front of a sellout crowd on Saturday night at Hadlock Field.

Trenton Brooks had three hits - including two homers and five RBIs - for the RubberDucks, while Nolan Jones added a homer and scored three runs.

Scott Moss (W, 2-0) was making his second start for Akron since being traded from the Cincinnati Reds organization and allowed just one unearned run on one hit over five innings. The lefty walked two and fanned six.

Akron jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning on a sac fly by Ernie Clement and Brooks' first homer off of Bryan Mata.

Mata (L, 2-5) went four-plus innings and allowed six runs on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

Portland scored its lone run in the fourth when Jarren Duran scored from second base on a wild pitch by Moss.

Brooks went yard for the second time in the fifth inning to run Mata out of the game and extend the lead to 6-1.

Jones' homer came in the seventh off of Matthew Gorst and cleared the Maine Monster.

Brett Netzer hit a two-run homer off of Kyle Dowdy with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to make it 7-3.

The series concludes on Sunday afternoon with a 1:00 PM start from Hadlock Field. LHP Daniel McGrath (4-0, 1.34) makes his 12th start of the season and Akron has LHP Adam Scott (4-2, 3.63) on the hill.
